Thanks to Eva Shack for all her hard work in organising the Hobbayne event on 17 October with special guest Jonathan Collett, the Chairman of Nuneaton & Bedworth Conservatives, who was responsible for organising the local campaign which resulted in the Conservatives gaining 8 seats and Labour losing overall control of the Borough Council.
Jonathan, a well-known PR and communications specialist, who had been press secretary to Michel Howard, told us how he had managed to achieve this stunning victory and stressed how much of this had been due to highly organised teamwork. He said that research was of paramount importance in identifying potential voters and the issues that resonated with the them so that the media could be used to get a clear narrative across to residents to motivate and persuade them. He recognised that we had only a small team but said this applied to his constituency too and a massive amount of hard work had been put in by a strictly disciplined team. He also said how important it was to select the candidates early and have a good manifesto and congratulated us on the quality of ours.
A fascinating evening, good food and wine donated by our generous members and good company. Let’s hope for many more events like this.
